Latest Message to IPS Staff:
IPS has survived a tumultuous year of budget restrictions and economic uncertainty. The past several months have been difficult, and I appreciate your commitment to your work and to your customers. That dedication has carried us through and brought us to a new fiscal year.
As you may know, the UT Board of Trustees approved the university's budget for FY2010 during its June meeting, and the governor and the legislature approved the state's budget just over a week ago.
IPS has a 2010 budget of $26.4 million for all three line items, and, we learned yesterday, a total of $1,825,000 in stimulus related funds over the next two years. We will post new information about our use of these stimulus funds on the IPS Employee Intranet on the 2010 Budget tab as soon as possible.
Also during the June meeting of the trustees, UT Interim President Dr. Jan Simek discussed his goal to evaluate the structure of the system administration and, specifically, the reporting relationship of IPS. I am serving on the committee that will evaluate IPS' reporting relationship, and I will present the group with information about IPS' services, structure, stakeholders, history, customers and staff so they can accurately assess how we fit in the university. The committee should have its first meeting in July and will work throughout the summer. I am comfortable with the stated approach and I fully support the president's efforts to improve our efficiency and reporting relationship. As the discussions and evaluations move ahead, I will let you know. For now, you can hear more about Simek's plans to evaluate the system's structure by listening to his comments at the June trustee meeting. Go to www.bot.tennessee.edu and choose the webcast of the June 17th meeting.
As we welcome a new fiscal year, let's also welcome the fact that regardless of constant changes and challenges, great things lie ahead for IPS.
Mary
